Volunteers may wish to begin thinking about lessons before arrival. The sites below are a small section of the many available sites for resources on teaching English and ICT to adults and children. Feel free to do your own research and find more sites for teaching English resources.
Young Learners of English:
These sites contain resources with ideas suitable for use in iSPiiCE work with children, especially in our after school groups and teaching in primary (elementary/middle) schools. Formal and structered lessons are required for iSPiiCE volunteer work in schools such as grammar or vocabulary topics which are more appropriate in an Indian school setting.
ESL Kids World offer free ESL Printable Worksheets, Flashcards, Songs, Phonics, Games Worksheets, PowerPoint and more for ESL/EFL children's lesson planning.
One Stop English is a comprehensive site for all learners of English Language. They have a particularly good children's section covering topics from phonics, poems, arts and crafts, beginners vocabulary and speaking and listening.
Teach English ESL is another complete site offering free worksheets, flashcards, games, songs and a mixed Lot section.
Adult Learners of English:
The following sites provide teaching resources suitable for iSPiiCE work with women's empowerment groups, secondary/high school teaching and also after school groups of older children.
ESL Galaxy provides resources for teaching adult learners of English.
ESL Mania offers resources for teaching English idioms to English grammar; well worth a visit.
Using English.com offers a complete collection for worksheets and printables to teach English grammar.
Skills Workshop is an excellent site for resources focusing on the teaching of ‘functional skills' and it is aimed at teachers of adult learners. Skills Workshop has pages dedicated to ICT, ESOL (English for speakers of other languages), English Literacy, Numeracy and Contextual Learning resources. Check them out for ideas to help in work with iSPiiCE women's empowerment groups and after school groups.
*The sites listed here are a very small selection of English teaching sites available, feel free to research and find some sites of your own. Also you will most probably find it easier to search for appropriate material while in India after you have met your students.
